Let us remember in our prayers the deeply troubled areas of our world where there are violent outbreaks and the coronavirus has become an epicenter.
The Laudato Si’ Action Platform is a unique collaboration between the Vatican, an international coalition of Catholic organizations, and “all men and women of good will.” (LS 3) Taking a truly ground-up approach, it is rooted in the strengths and realities of communities around the world, empowering all to take “decisive action, here and now” as we journey towards a better future together. (LS 161)
Action is urgently needed. Our Creator called the human family to be the steward of creation, but we have neglected that call. Our hotter, dirtier, deader planet is driving up the risk of suffering. The most vulnerable suffer above all.
At this kairos moment, we are responding to the call for healing in our relationships with God, our neighbors, and the Earth itself. Through the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, we are walking the “path to renewal” together (LS 202).
July 14 is the feast day for St. Kateri Tekakwitha, the first indigenous saint from the Americas, who is widely considered a patron of creation. We hope that this was a good day for you to celebrate creation by celebrating Pope Francis’s video which invites you to the Laudato Si’ Action Platform.
The JPIC Commission promotes and supports the integration of JUSTICE, PEACE & INTEGRITY OF CREATION (JPIC) in the life and mission of the Union of Superior Generals (USG) and the International Union of Superior Generals (UISG) and their member congregations. It is responsible for animating men and women religious in justice, peace and integrity of creation according to the vows of the evangelical life, through experience, social analysis, spiritual reflection and action.
Each year, the JPIC Commission focuses its activities on a particular theme. This year, our work centers on Looking for ways to respond to our call to holiness as contemplatives in action who promote God’s reign of justice, peace and love. This means being able to create a sense of God's presence with our family, our neighbor, the community, people of other countries, all living creatures, the environment around us and the entire universe. Moreover, we must promote justice, uphold peace and be loving and compassionate at every opportunity.
The JPIC USG-UISG is inviting JPIC promoters to sign the petition on Biodiversity "Healthy Planet, Healthy People" promoted by the Global Catholic Climate Movement. This petition is an opportunity, before the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) in October, and the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) to ask world leaders to set meaningful targets to protect creation. Ahead of those meetings, it is our responsibility as Catholics to lift up the voices of the most vulnerable and advocate on their behalf.
The Creation Care Prayer Network is a global network of religious and lay contemplative communities to the healing of our common home through prayer and Eucharistic adoration. By joining the network, communities will be making a powerful public commitment to pray for creation on an ongoing basis. It is up to the communities to determine how they pray. Some monthly resources will be suggested. The JPIC Commission USG-UISG is one of the sponsors.
